As a global technology leader Cisco understand that it has a critical role to play in stimulating national debate and shaping a digital future. While that role takes many forms, we have a particularly innovative model started here in Australia with the National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN). The NIIN is a collective of industry partners (anchored by Cisco) and universities focused on helping to accelerate the pace and scale the impact of digitisation. The NIIN is a coalition of organisations that understand the value of digital technology and are focused on de-risking implementation and accelerating digital transformation.
It has been great to collaborate with RMIT and our NIIN partners in the creation of a new report focused on disruptive trends in healthcare that are most likely to change systems and improve outcomes. The report called out `Augmented Intelligences’ as the most significant technology transformation impacting healthcare globally.
Other major trends were:
- Simulation and simulacra: using digital replicas to hack the real world
- Remote patient care: care that meets the patient where they need it
- Health system adaptability and dynamism: resilience and sustainability
- Harnessing biotechnology breakthroughs
The Health x Digital Transformation Report 2024-2025 was released by the RMIT-Cisco Health Transformation Lab and other partners of the NIIN Health Alliance. The report draws on almost 10,000 journal articles and reports and provides details on dozens of existing healthcare innovations which have already been trialled or are in production. The thesis of the report is simple; meeting challenges related to healthcare demand and increased complexity will almost certainly involve investments in technology.
The challenge for healthcare – like many sectors – is scaling innovative solutions so they create systemic change. The report sets out roadmap for actionable change in the next 12 months including articulation of how the NIIN Health Alliance can support governments, health providers and medtech companies to make progress more quickly than they might alone.
The NIIN Health Alliance will be working with people and organisations across health technology, research and policy to drive action off the back of this important report.
