More than 30 education executives from Australia, New Zealand and the US met virtually over Webex last week to discuss the outlook for education in what is being described as a `next normal’. The topic, Reimagining Education in a post COVID-19 World, was part of a round table which Cisco convened as part of a broader industry series, and it featured perspectives from Arizona State University, San Jose State University, as well as Australian universities and TAFEs. The conversation highlighted a number of themes that describe the challenges and opportunities ahead:

  • How Institutes are responding where discretionary spending is now more likely to be directed towards digital than physical infrastructure
  • Forcing Institutions to change/adapt operating and business models with a heightened focus on competing in the virtual education space.
  • Education becoming more competitive and is increasingly about experiences and ‘Instagram-worthy’ moments
  • Education will need to leverage the full potential of technology and ensure the right underlying digital infrastructure is in place.

Insights and quotes from the round table have been captured in a summary infographic (below) and will no doubt form the basis for some very interesting conversations in coming months as leaders and governments continue to re-imagine the future of education.
