Kip Compton

SVP, Cloud Platform and Solutions Group

Kip Compton is Senior Vice President of Cisco’s Cloud Platform and Solutions group. Kip leads the company’s effort to help customers innovate in a multicloud, automated world which is core to Cisco’s strategy of delivering a secure, intelligent platform for digital business. Kip and his team work across Cisco and with key technology partners to deliver innovative cloud products, hybrid cloud solutions, and Cisco’s multicloud portfolio.

Kip’s organization develops world-class cloud orchestration solutions, private cloud software platforms, and network orchestration products. His team also leads Cisco’s ngena initiative to enable service providers to benefit from a new shared economy model for networking services, creates go-to-market strategies for the Cisco Cloud Portfolio, and enables Cisco's open source software contributions. In addition, Kip’s team drives the development of the world’s highest performance and most advanced data plane software used in cloud, virtualization and container networking. Kip and his team also enable Cisco partnerships with public cloud companies such as Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.

Kip has over 20 years of senior leadership experience driving innovation in cloud, services, the Internet of Things, and network engineering. Kip has held leadership roles with vendors as well as service providers. His areas of expertise include video, distributed systems, content distribution, collaboration technologies, and digital media security.

Previously, Kip served as Vice President of Cisco’s Internet of Things Systems and Software Group, where he was responsible for developing a broad portfolio of IoT connectivity platforms and advanced software platforms. Additionally, he served as General Manager of Cisco’s Service Provider Video Software and Solutions Group, Chief Technology Officer for Cisco’s Video and Collaboration Group, and Vice President and General Manager of Strategy and Product Management for the Service Provider Video Technology Group.

Before joining Cisco, he was with Comcast as Vice President of Video and Media Engineering, responsible for development of Comcast’s digital cable, content security, video on demand, and streaming media infrastructure and services.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and a master’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a MBA degree from the Wharton School. He holds multiple patents in the areas of digital video, content security, and networking.
