What’s your verdict on AI so far? Is it a good thing? A bad thing? A scary thing?
I suspect that most of us—even those employed in the tech sector—are only vaguely aware of what AI is capable of at this point. And what I’m finding is that the more I learn, the more I’m actually quite excited about the increased use of and normalization of AI. Because it’s not just one thing, and it will not be implemented in one way, although we inadvertently seem to imply that when we talk about it (It’s coming. It’s big. We don’t know what it wants from us, but we all secretly suspect it will steal our jobs. Ack!).
Really AI will show up in thousands of different applications. It will impact our lives in positive ways by managing traffic more efficiently, helping doctors diagnose our illnesses more accurately, and managing energy usage across cities. But many uses of AI will either be entirely invisible to most of us or will simply not be relevant to us in our particular professions. So the key to appreciating AI will be finding the AI apps that can actually help each of us in concrete ways and putting them to work in short order.

Most people seem to have a general understanding of AI, but many who are pioneers in the industry and deep-seated investors indicate that what the general population knows about AI is only the tip of the iceberg.
