I’m standing here today in Geneva, at the annual Airport Passenger Terminal Expo, where Cisco and SITA are presenting our joint solution for WiFi-based location-based services in airports. This solution enables deep insights and understanding of how passengers use and move throughout their arrival or departure journey.
The event kicked off this morning with a series of keynotes, and already on the exhibition floor I’ve been talking to a lot of airport leaders who are interested in the joint Cisco/SITA solution and how this really is starting to enable a better travelling experience and more efficient airport.
A common theme that I am observing here is that there is an emergence of technologies from location services, from app-based boarding passes to RFID-tagged baggage – all of which over the coming years will converge to using WiFi as a common platform to deliver innovation and improved operations and passenger experiences.
The event seems well attended with industry leaders and aviation professionals – CEOs, senior directors and managers from leading airports, airlines, industry partners and government. In case you missed it, you can see how Cisco and SITA are working with Copenhagen Airport for more efficient airport travel.
And if you want to learn more about our solution, you can hear my thoughts our recent Connected Passengers webcast.

Interesting, I’m guessing the way forward will be getting critical information either on to your handsets or devices such as Google glass or something similar.
Baggage tracking is something, I personally think is in the stone-age. I simply can’t understand why I can’t track my luggage anywhere in the world similar to what I do with a letter.
For example, currently lost and found services rely on the finder being kind enough to upload a tag key to a website.
Really an interesting blog.Keep writing.
