Like many of you out there, Vikram Hosakote was one of those kids who was always taking apart the remote controls and other electronic gadgets in his home to see how they worked.

By the time he was 11 he had gotten his hands on an x86 box, and soon he was learning COBOL and Fortran in support of the mainframes and batch processing at his school. Today Vikram works on Cisco’s Metacloud team, where he’s focused on OpenStack and deploying and developing cloud products for Kolla customers. He’s also a core-reviewer of the OpenStack Kolla and Kolla-Ansible project string. Which all means that he’s got terrific first-hand insights into cloud technology, container technology, and the efforts to allow them to work together seamlessly. In this episode, Vikram specifically speaks about:

  • What it’s like to grow up in India
  • How he got involved in open source
  • The current status of OpenDaylight
  • What the OpenStack Kolla project does
  • Use cases for containers
  • Why Kubernetes is so popular
  • The difference between what enterprises and service providers want in a cloud
