SAN JOSE, Calif., February 27, 2023 – Cisco announced today it is working with V.tal to increase the capacity of its multi-tenant fiber-optic neutral network in Brazil to accelerate the delivery of 5G services and enable the Internet for the Future, expanding connectivity throughout the country.

V.tal is the first end-to-end fiber-optic neutral network company in the Brazilian market, and the owner of the largest infrastructure in the country with 450 thousand kilometers of terrestrial optical fiber connecting more than 2,380 municipalities in Brazil. Working with Cisco and mobile operators, V.tal aims to accelerate the deployment of 5G throughout Brazil, helping to fulfill the country’s ambition to bring high-quality connectivity everywhere.

V.tal’s network is one of the first deployments of shared digital infrastructure, enabling multiple mobile and fixed service providers to cost effectively share the infrastructure. The fiber-optic neutral network will accelerate time-to-market and allow service providers to focus on generating revenue from new and innovative 5G services.

Cisco’s converged, automated end-to-end transport architecture with Routed Optical Networking and Segment Routing will make the deployment and management of the fiber-optic network easier and more cost-efficient, as well as increase capacity for V.tal. It will also provide V.tal the flexibility and agility to add capacity and expand the network as operators’ and their customers’ connectivity demands continue to grow.

“At V.tal, we are committed to our neutral network strategy to expand beyond 20 million homes passed, accelerate the deployment of 5G, and deliver related service innovations for our customers throughout Brazil,” said Cicero Olivieri, Vice President of Engineering at V.tal.” Our purpose is to transform people`s lives through connectivity and increasing digital inclusion in Brazil, and Cisco working with Cisco will help us to increase the capacity of our fiber-optic neutral network enabling 5G and Internet for the future

“At Cisco, our purpose is to power an inclusive future for all,” said Bill Gartner, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cisco Optical Systems and Optics. “It’s an honor to see Cisco technology powering V.tal’s goal to bring connectivity everywhere throughout Brazil while also enabling their 5G network services. Our Routed Optical Network architecture provides the foundation that will serve them now and well into the future as IP+Optical integration continues its momentum.”
