Hello all,
Hope you all are enjoying a productive week. This week I thought it would be prudent to talk about upgrading router (+switch and wireless access point) firmware. The firmware is software that is embedded on the router. This firmware is normally updated to include new features and enhancements to the device. All of our firmware upgrades are FREE.
So take a look at a quick Knowledge Base article (based in our fabulous support forum) on upgrading the firmware on the new RV130 and RV130W: https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/12318721/firmwarelanguage-upgrade-rv130-and-rv130w-using-web-interface.
You will need to download the firmware to your computer and connect an ethernet cable from computer to your router.
Side note: We have an option, yes there is another way. Check out this blog on FindIt.
Make it great rest of the week.
Marc
On the current German datasheet for the 300 Series Small Business Switches the free software update term seems to be limited to 12 months 🙁
“Darüber hinaus bietet Cisco für 12 Monate ab Kaufdatum kostenlose Software-Updates mit Bugfixes”
see http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/switches/small-business-smart-switches/300_Series_Switches_DS_FINAL_2757.pdf
which is translated to English
“In addition, Cisco offers software application updates for bug fixes for the first 12 months following the date of purchase”
So I can’t see that the software upgrades are (always) FREE of charge.
So maybe the translator of the German document made a mistake (only free telephone support is limited to 12 months in the current English version) and you should have the document updated or your statement of free updates is limited to US customers.
But if your statement is correct, the reason for warranty extensions is not clear (for what do they exist and claim to offer major and minor upgrades free of charge during the extension term, when all upgrades are free)?
Maybe you could clarify this?
On the firmware download page for the Cisco SG220-52 52-Port Gigabit Smart Plus Switch a symbol (login and valid contract required) appears (so it seems to be not free of charge). Is this on purpose or a mistake?
I’m confused by the different statements (your blog, datasheet, download page, warranty extension description, warranty finder).
Rest assured, all Small Business product firmware upgrades are free.
Have a good day
