This week, one of our favorite Product Managers, Nasser Tarazi, was in Las Vegas for the NBASE-T show at The Mirage Casino and Hotel.

Here is Nasser’s report:  This week at Interop ITX 2018, our team was part of the teams at the NBASE-T Alliance booth where we presented and demonstrated some of the latest products with Multi-gigabit Technologies. The two Cisco Small Business products present were the Cisco WAP581 Wireless-AC Dual Radio Wave 2 Access Point with 2.5GbE LAN and the Cisco SG350-8PMD 8-Port 2.5G PoE Stackable Managed Switch.

Some may ask, what is NBASE-T Alliance? The NBASE-T Alliance is an industry-wide cooperative effort focused on enabling the development and deployment of products that support 2.5G and 5G BASE-T Ethernet. The Alliance was founded by Cisco in 2014 with a purpose to consensus and help streamline the development the new Ethernet standard.   NBASE-T technology is an Ethernet signaling which boosts the speed of 100 meter of Cat5e/Cat6 cabling well beyond the cable’s design limit of 1 Gbps speed. The technology is capable of delivering up to 2.5Gbps, or even 5 Gbps. On Cat5e and Cat6!

This is not the end, the NBASE-T technology also supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), PoE+ and Cisco Universal PoE (UPOE). As data traffic continues to grow in new technologies such as wireless 802.11ac Wave 2 and the upcoming 802.11ax, it is clear that the speed and performance of these technologies are pushing the threshold of the capacity of wired infrastructure. The NBASE-T technology will enable those new technologies and provide faster (Wireless) performance for your network without replacing your wired infrastructure. So do not let your switches become a bottleneck. Prepare you access switches for those current and upcoming technologies. You know when the wireless network is solid and has great performance; no complaints! Cisco and the Cisco Small Business Product Team will continue to expand our networking products supporting NBASE-T technology.

Thank you Nasser for the great Blog today.

As always, stay tuned here for the latest updates from our Product Team.

Marc
