With October designated as Cyber Security Awareness Month, it got me thinking about the connections between awareness and trust. Cisco has made significant investments in what we call “Trustworthy Systems.” These products and services integrate security features, functions, and design practices from the very beginning. We do this because we know that people will be depending on Cisco products for communications critical to their personal and professional missions.
We don’t confuse trust with blind faith. The best kind of customer for trustworthy systems are not the ones that take our word for it, but test, validate and challenge us on the built-in security robustness of our products and solutions. I have more to say about this subject in the video blog post below. The bottom line, however, is that trust isn’t something you can promise, but must be earned every minute of a product’s service life.
