Recent Cisco news highlights two prominent service providers – Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica – who have chosen Cisco IP Next-Generation Network solutions.
Deutsche Telekom subsidiary Hrvatski Telekom – Croatia’s largest telecommunications company – is using Cisco solutions in its new TeraStream cloud-enabled IP architecture.
Key elements include all-IPv6 streamlined routing architecture; fully converged IP and optical layers with 100G coherent technology; integrated cloud service centers, enabling virtualized network services and applications for rapid service innovation; programmatic interfaces aligned with the software-defined networking architecture for real-time automation and OSS; and customer self-service management capabilities.
Cisco has delivered the following technologies in this landmark deployment:
- Advanced IP and optical networking: Cisco ASR 9000 routers provide the initial foundation for TeraStream, connecting users to services over 100 Gbps integrated optical links.
- End-to-end IPv6: Cisco’s IPv6 leadership enables the TeraStream vision of all-IPv6 networking, while allowing customers to continue to access existing IPv4 Internet and services.
- Cloud service center: Cisco is providing the initial data center foundation based on the Cisco Unified Computing System.
- Home gateway: The dual-band Linksys® Smart Wi-Fi Router N900 (EA4500) provides a first home gateway solution with wireless speeds of up to 450 Mbps.
- End-to-end service and network management. Cisco’s Agile Business Architecture (ABA) is the initial operation support system for TeraStream.
- Customer Portal: Cisco’s network management technology group created an innovative customer sign-on and self-service portal specifically for the TeraStream trial.
Telefonica Global Solutions, part of the Telefonica Group, has selected Cisco for its enhanced IP NGN. Integral to supporting this Internet growth will be the deployment of the Cisco CRS-3 core routing platform and ASR 9000 Series routers for enhanced capacity, high resiliency, and robust IPv6 support.
Telefonica’s network connects more than 100 locations in more than 60 cities and 40 countries connecting the main cities of Europe, Latin America, the United States and Asia.
With more than 8,000 systems deployed and nearly 1,000 multi-chassis configurations, the Cisco CRS is the industry’s most robust, scalable, widely deployed multi-chassis core router. Cisco’s new elastic core solution capabilities allow it to seamlessly add a second chassis without the space and cost of a separate fabric chassis.
