New Developer Offers for SD-WAN, AWS Hybrid Cloud, Meraki, and Collaboration
When I first joined Cisco, I learned that we had a secret weapon…our amazing partner community. Our partners build, manage, and operate mission critical infrastructures for our customers around the world. One of the goals of DevNet is to make sure our partners have the skills they need to innovate and differentiate with software.
We’re happy to have grown our DevNet community to over half a million members, which shows that we’re relevant and useful to our developers. Another goal is to help our partners succeed and grow their businesses. We were excited to learn that the Cisco partners who engage with DevNet are growing a full 10 percentage points faster than those who don’t.
I’m here at Cisco’s Partner Summit this week, and we have more offerings to announce than I had time to cover during my time on stage. So, here is the full listing of new ways for you to engage with DevNet and expand your skills.
Our new product offerings show that there is a new paradigm in networking. The network is now programmable, and that involves intent-based networking, multi-domain and software-defined architectures, multi-cloud applications, security, collaboration platforms, and IoT and digital transformation solutions. DevNet powers a multi-cloud world with software and applications that make intent-based networking real. Network programmability makes businesses more efficient and provides a competitive differentiation in the market for partners. The announcements we are making at Partner Summit power this new networking paradigm and help partners get ready to create with the latest product offerings at Cisco.
New partnership with Amazon Web Services
Our latest move towards the new networking paradigm came last week. Cisco announced a new partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to collaborate on container technologies. The Cisco Hybrid Solution for Kubernetes on AWS enables customers to securely deploy, connect, and monitor containerized applications in Kubernetes clusters consistently across private data centers and the AWS cloud. Developers now have the flexibility to develop in the cloud and deploy either in the AWS cloud or on-premises. AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) enables users and developers of the Cisco Container Platform to manage access to AWS services and resources securely. IAM allows creation and management of AWS users and groups and uses permissions to allow or deny access to AWS resources. Also, our App Dynamics agent is pre-integrated in CCP to offer end-to-end visibility of the entire application ecosystem for migration validation and improvements in error detection/problem resolution. DevNet members can try out these technologies in the new Cisco Container Platform Sandbox integrated with AWS. New Cisco SD-WAN features and programmability
Today at Partner Summit, Cisco announced new Cisco SD-WAN features and programmability for digital and cloud transformation. These features include Integrated Firewall, IPS and URL-Filtering on SD-WAN platform. With open APIs, it’s easier than ever to develop applications that extend the Cisco SD-WAN fabric by using REST APIs. I am happy to announce a brand-new developer center that aligns with today’s product announcement. We have a full suite of SD-WAN offerings, including an SD-WAN video series, new learning labs, and sandboxes. We also put new code sample and a new POSTMAN collection in DevNet Code Exchange. For partners building new solutions using Cisco SD-WAN, I am happy to announce that we have on-boarded twelve SD-WAN partners in DevNet Ecosystem Exchange.
As we spoke with partners in the field, we quickly realized that smaller Managed Service Providers need a single pane of glass view to manage their tenants. Our team built software that showcases the SD-WAN health APIs that create this single view. Adrian Iliesiu’s blog has more details about our DevNet SD-WAN offerings.
New APIs from Meraki
Cisco Meraki also announced Meraki MV Camera APIs. You can use the APIs to poll any Meraki camera for current updates or latency status. New location scanning APIs for Meraki
Beat use Elastic Search to capture the data from the cameras and display data analytics through dashboards using Kibana source code. Meraki also announced new Webhook APIs to monitor network health. Webhooks can be programmed to issue alerts when there is a problem, such as an access point is down. New collaboration APIs ease development with real time media
The Cisco Collaboration team is exposing the power of our Collaboration platform through, not only end user experiences, but also through a powerful set of APIs for developers and SDKs that ease development with real time media. We are seeing an increased interest in connected business processes. Bringing team collaboration into Line of Business (LOB) applications converts systems of record into pleasing systems of engagement. A simple example – our video endpoints are IoT sensors too. They track who is in a meeting room. With this simple data, we can connect real estate systems with intelligence on usage, thereby increasing utilization rates as well as improving usage in real time. Freeing up an unused, scheduled meeting room through our APIs is now a breeze as is dimming the lights or managing room temperature based on usage.

The most important news we want to share is you don’t have to be an expert to utilize all these new technologies. The best developers don’t only write code. Our partners are located around the world, so DevNet is coming to them. I’ve just returned from a week in Europe where we held our very first European DevNet Connect event in Portugal. I also had the pleasure of attending the opening of the new Cisco Academy at the University of Naples where students, government, companies and start-ups collaborate to build the next wave of innovation. We’ve also just launched DevNet in China and are planning more DevNet Express events across Latin America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and of course in North America and Europe.
